PI adapter for PI-to-PI

We need a new robust product to support data transfer between PI servers in separate domains (operational network --> business network).

This product would need to support the following:

  • Highly available

  • remote management/deployment

  • multiple instances on a single node (to support large number of points)

  • resilient to network issues

  • History recovery

  • PI Collective aware

Many customers are looking for an "upgrade" to a stable PI Adapter so they can stop using PI to PI Interfaces.

The PI System Connector (PSC) is not the answer to this problem. (1) AVEVA are strongly hinting that connectors will disappear in the future and (2) in my experience the PSC is too resource intensive and not very reliable with large point counts.

w.r.t the health monitoring, the adapters already have some health monitoring. If there is a need for more, maybe that can be tackled more generally for all adapters. Windows performance counters are unlikely to be implemented given that part of the adapter mission statement is to be cross-platform.

Also needs to reliably update health and status tags. Preferably expose as windows performance counters so status can be monitored independently.
